It’s hard to believe we are already beginning week 7 of the campus summer reading extravaganza called PoP4.  We are still getting new readers and enjoying their reviews of books.  The librarians, in their attempt to read in most every subject are in the library, are reading in the P’s this week which is primarily language and literature.  This is a wide open category that encompasses everything from foreign language literature to popular fiction.  Kitty read Watchmen, the new graphic novel and reviewed it for us!  Be sure to stop by the library and check out all the librarian reviews!   Also, if you have not taken a look at the reviews your colleagues are submitting there’s no time like the present.  Just go to http://pop4.thebookloverinme.com/ and you will find out who is reading and what is hot this summer – besides the weather!

Can you believe that we are at the halfway point in PoP4, the summer reading extravaganza!  The librarians are reading in the L's this week on our walk through the stacks.  In the L's are books on educators and education of all levels.  Kitty has reviewed a book by a famous educator named Herbert Kohl.  If you'd like to read our reviews, go to http://pop4.thebookloverinme.com/ and select "Theme of the Week".

This is the beginning of week 4 of PoP4 - our summer reading extravaganza.

Hopefully everyone is staying cool and has picked a good book to read to enhance your summer relaxation.  This week, the librarians are reading from the G's and H's - on topics from sports and recreation to business and sociology.  Look for some great reviews to come out on the PoP4 webpage this week.  The reading leader this summer has already reported on 13 books!

The library is again sponsoring a reading program for faculty and staff designed to get us all reading!  If you are like me, your reading sometimes suffers during the busy school year and I look forward to a few extra hours of time in the summer to settle down with some good books.  With family budgets squeezed tighter than usual this summer, reading is a great way to take a virtual vacation.  So, this year’s summer reading program can be a great way to supplement your “Stay-cation”!

We are reading up a storm on campus this week!  Take a look at what everyone is reading for ideas about how to spice up your “to be read” pile.  I’m enjoying reading the reviews that you all are writing to recommend your books.  As you might have guessed, the person who has read the most so far is an English major and also a library worker.  If you have not taken the reading challenge yet this summer, it is not too late to get started!  We have just started the seventh week!  All you have to do is read and fill out a simple form on the PoP3 website located at http://reading.thebookloverinme.com/index.html. 

Remember, at the end of our reading extravaganza, we’ll have a reception in the atrium of the library to wrap up and announce the grand prize winner.  This year the reception will be on Sept. 3 at 10 a.m.  Plan to join us for this celebration of the joy of reading!

Hopefully this email finds you in the middle of a good book.  There are quite a few of us reading and sharing what we are reading.  Some of the reviews you all have written have made me want to abandon my current book and start the book you are reading!  In fact, Leslie Martin’s review of Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Mineral: A Year of Food Life made me put down my current book for a few days!  These reviews invite great conversation – so find someone who has read something interesting by going to http://reading.thebookloverinme.com and start a conversation!

This is week 6 of our 10 week summer reading program.  The librarians will be posting reviews on a Natural History/Science book for the theme this week.  Come up to the library and see all the books we’ve read and reviewed or visit the PoP3 website noted above to see all the books the librarians have reviewed on the various themes.

I can see from looking at your reviews that there is some good reading going on all over campus!  There are some terrific reviews of books about dogs (Marley and Me), royalty (Prince Caspian), vegetables (Animal, Vegetable, Miracle) as well as books that have become movies!  The library staff is reading and will be providing new reviews of books about foreign countries, biography and fiction in the weeks to come.

If you have not already looked at the PoP3 website, you should!  It is located at http://reading.thebookloverinme.com/index.html.  This holiday weekend is a great time to start a book and get involved in reading for fun and community!  So, read a book that is available in the library or through Link + and let us know what you think by submitting a short review.

Welcome to week 1 of the Pages of Power (PoP³) library reading extravaganza! I hope you’ve all seen the emails encouraging you to get started reading for fun and to share your reading with the rest of our community at http://reading.thebookloverinme.com/index.html. When you read a book that is available in our library or through LINK+ and post your thoughts about the book on the reading blog you'll be adding to the community of readers on campus and be eligible for a small gift after your first, fifth and tenth books!

The librarians are reading books that have been made into movies this week and will be posting reviews for your reading pleasure. Some of us are reading books for which the library owns both the book and the video! So, you might want to check out both the book and the video. All of the books that the librarians review will be available for you to check out at the entrance of the library.

On your mark, get set, READ!

It’s heating up outside which can only mean that it’s time to start our summer reading extravaganza – PoP3 (Pages of Power).  This is the third summer the library has sponsored an on campus reading initiative for faculty and staff (including student workers).  Every summer for the last couple of years we have encouraged the campus to read books from the library or books available on Link + and to post what they have read along with a brief description on a library hosted web site.  The librarians are reading too and will be providing riveting (well, at least pretty interesting) reviews of books on a variety of topics such as history, biography, movie books and natural history.

Make your plans now to join your colleagues in reading this summer and sharing your thoughts about what you’ve read with us!  There are prizes for readers who tell us about reading one book, five books or ten books and a grand prize awaits the reader reporting the most books read for the summer.  So, you might ask, when does this extravaganza begin?  It all starts on June 16, right after graduation and it goes right through the summer until August 25, 2008.

Keep watch for more information on how you can participate.  Get that reading list ready!
